Insert a Non-Breaking space in Word

When entering text into a document, MS Word wraps your text onto different lines for you. This is expected and very useful, but can cause problems when you do not want a word to be broken over different lines in a document.

Examples of this may be when entering text such as 20 kg, or a customer reference code like AD TYH 3506.
To prevent a word from being broken across different lines you need to insert a non-breaking space in Word instead of a traditional space.

Using the Custom Dictionary in Word

When you spell check your Word documents, there are bound to be some words that you have used which Word incorrectly identifies as a spelling mistake.

Instead of just telling Word to ignore these words, you can go one step further and add them to your custom dictionary.

The custom dictionary is a built in dictionary for you to store words that you use often, and are being incorrectly identified as spelling mistakes. Common examples include the names of people, companies and locations.

PowerPoint – Display Pop Up Text on Mouse Over

Display pop up text on mouse over of an image or some other object in your PowerPoint presentation. This creates a nice effect similar to what you experience on the web when you hover the mouse over an image.

By creating this pop up text window, the text is only displayed when the user hovers the mouse pointer over the image, rather than displaying it permanently on the slide. This will save space and can be great for interactive presentations such as quizzes.

MS Project: View Resource Workload using the Team Planner

The team planner view was introduced in MS Project 2010. The view makes it easier to see your resources workload over time and to make changes.

Resources are shown in rows across a timescale just like in the Gantt Chart. You can see which team member does what and when at a quick glance. The task names are displayed inside the task bars.

Problems such as overallocations can be quickly identified. These problems can then be rectified usually by just clicking and dragging the task to a different resource, or to a different start date.

The fact that the team planner looks like a Gantt Chart for resources, and it allows you to make changes in the same way that you may already do so in MS Outlook, helps make this view easy to relate to.
