Define New Lists

Define a new bulleted, numbered or multileveled list to create your own list style and formatting.

Define a New Bulleted List style

  1. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon
  2. Click the Bullets button list arrow in the Paragraph group and click Define New Bullet
  3. The Define New Bullet dialogue box appears. Format the bullet using the options provided
  4. Define a new bullet

  • Symbol - Use one of the various symbols supplied by Word 2003 for your bullet character
  • Set a symbol for the bullet character

  • Picture - Use one of the existing picture symbols, or import your own picture to use for your bullet characters
  • Use a picture bullet
  • Font - Change the font formatting of the bullet character such as the font type or size
  • Alignment - Set the alignment of the bullets to left, centered or right
  1. Click Ok

Define a New Number Format

  1. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon
  2. Click the Numbering list arrow in the Paragraph group and click Define New Number Format
  3. The Define New Number Format dialogue box appears. Make the required formatting changes from the options provided
  4. Define a new number format

  • Number Style - Select a new style of numbering from the drop down list
  • Font - Make font formatting changes to the number style such as the font type and size
  • Number Format - Make further adjustments to the formatting of the selected number style
  • Alignment - Align the numbering to the left, centre or right of the page
  1. Click Ok

Define a New Multilevel List

  1. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon
  2. Click the Multilevel button list arrow in the paragragh group and click Define New Multilevel List
  3. The Define New Multilevel List dialogue box appears. Select the level you want to modify and make the required formatting changes from the options provided
  4. Define a new multilevel list

  5. Click the More > > for more advanced formatting options
