Create bulleted and numbered lists in Word 2003 to present related information in an ordered or unordered manner.

Create Bulleted and Numbered Lists

Bulleted lists are used to present unordered information such as a shopping list. Numbered lists are used to present ordered information such as step by step instructions.

  1. Select the paragraphs you want to format
  2. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and click the Bullets or Numbering button in the paragraph group
  3. Click the list arrow on each button to apply a different style of bullets or numbering

Create a Multileveled List

Multileveled lists apply different bullets or numbering to the different levels of a list.

  1. Select the paragraphs you want to format
  2. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and click the list arrow on the Multilevel List button in the paragraph group
  3. Using a multilevel list

  4. Select the style you want to use
  5. Change the level of the items in the list by using the Tab key to increase the indent, and by pressing Shift + Tab keys to decrease the indent

Reset Numbering

Word 2003 automatically numbered each item in a list. You can manually set a number in a list or restart the numbering.

  1. Right mouse click on the list item you want to change
  2. Click Set Numbering Value from the shortcut menu
  3. Set numbering value

  4. Select the Start new list or Continue from previous list option
  • Start new list - Start a new list from the number specified in the Set value to box
  • Continue from previous list - Continue from the list used previously in the document. Click the Advance value (skip numbers) checkbox to specifiy a value t begin with in the Set value to box
