Inserting SmartArt

SmartArt diagrams are new to Word 2007 allowing you to create high quality diagrams quickly and easily.

  1. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon
  2. Click the SmartArt button in the Illustrations group
  3. Select the diagram type and then diagram you want to use. On selecting a diagram, a description is displayed to the right
  4. Inserting a SmartArt Graphic

  5. Click Ok
  6. The SmartArt object is inserted into the document.

Add Text to a SmartArt Diagram

Text can be added to a diagram using the Text Pane or directly into the shapes of the graphic.

To enter text directly into the shapes:

  1. Click the [Text] placeholder in the shape
  2. Enter the text you want to use

To use the Text Pane:

  1. Click a bullet in the Text Pane
  2. Enter the text you want to use
  3. Inserted SmartArt diagram with Text Pane

    To move between shapes in the Text pane use the up and down cursor keys on the keyboard

    Press the Enter key to insert a new shape

    If the Text Pane is not visible, click the Text Pane button in the Create Graphic group of the Design tab on the Ribbon
