Font Formatting

Font formatting is used to change the look and feel of the text on a page. You can change the font type, size, colour and add text effects.

Change the Font Type

The font type is the style in which the text is written. The default type is Calibri, a new font to Word 2007.

  1. Select the text you want to format
  2. Click the Font list arrow in the Font group of the Home tab on the Ribbon
  3. A list of fonts appears. As you point to the different fonts available, the selected text on the page will change to show how it would appear when the font is applied.

Change the Font Size

Text can be made larger for more emphasis or smaller to make it more subtle.

  1. Select the text you want to format
  2. Click the Font Size list arrow and select a size from the list that appears
  3. Or

    Click the Grow Font or Shrink Font buttons until you achieve the required text size

Apply Font Effects

Effects can be applied to text within Word for greater emphasis.

  1. Select the text you want to add an effect to
  2. Click the required button from the Font group on the Home tab of the Ribbon

Change the Font Colour

Changing the colour of text and really make it stand out from other text on the page

  1. Select the text you want to colour
  2. Click the Font Color list arrow
  3. Changing the font colour

  4. Select the colour you want to use
  5. If you do not like any of the colours on offer, click More Colors for a greater choice including the ability to enter your own RGB value

Clear Formatting

Formatting can be quickly and easily removed from text if no longer wanted.

  1. Select the text with the formatting you want to remove
  2. Click the Clear Formatting button in the Font group of the Home tab on the Ribbon
  3. Clear Formatting button
