Customise a Bulleted List

Different bullet formats can be applied in Word 2003. Bulleted list formats include circle, square, arrow or tick bullet styles. Special characters and pictures can also be used for bullets.

A bullets indentation from the edge of the page can be adjusted for better clarity of reading, or to align the list with other text or objects on the page.

Use a Different Bullet Style

  1. Select the list items you want to format
  2. Click Format > Bullets and Numbering
  3. Format a bulleted list

  4. Select a different bullet style
  5. Click OK

Use a Character or Picture Bullet

  1. Select the list items you want to format
  2. Click Format > Bullets and Numbering
  3. Click the Customize button
  4. Customise a bulleted list

  5. Click the Font button to select a different font style
  6. Click the Character button to select a different bullet character

Adjust the Bullet or Text Position

  1. Select the list items you want to format
  2. Click Format > Bullets and Numbering
  3. Click the Customize button
  4. In the Bullet position panel, adjust the Indent at: box to set the distance of the bullet from the edge of the page
  5. In the Text position panel, adjust the Indent at: box to set how far you want the text to be indented from the bullet character

    The preview panel below displays the results of your customisations

  6. Click Ok
