Insert Hyperlinks

You can insert hyperlinks to other files, web pages and to another part of the same document to make it easy for the reader to see related content.

Hyperlinks can be inserted using text or images. Text is generally preferred as it is more descriptive and the link is more obvious to the reader.

Insert a Hyperlink to a Web Page

  1. Select the text that you want to use for the hyperlink
  2. Click the Insert Hyperlink button on the Standard toolbar Insert hyperlink button
  3. Or

    Click Insert > Hyperlink from the Menu bar

  4. Click Existing File or Web Page from the List to: panel of the Hyperlink dialogue box
  5. Browse the web button for inserting hyperlinks to web pages

  6. Type the URL of the web page in the Address: box
  7. Or

    Click the Browse the Web button, browse to the web page you want to link to and close the browser

  8. Click Ok

Insert a Hyperlink to a File

  1. Select the text that you want to use for the hyperlink
  2. Click the Insert Hyperlink button on the Standard toolbar
  3. In the List to: panel select Existing File or Web Page
  4. Insert a hyperlink to a file

  5. Locate and select the file that you want to link to
  6. Click Ok

Link to a Place Within a Document

You must have headings or bookmarks set up in a document to be able to link to a specific part of a document.

  1. Select the text that you want to use for the hyperlink
  2. Click the Insert Hyperlink button on the Standard toolbar
  3. Select Place in This Document from the Link to: panel
  4. Link to a heading or bookmark in the document

  5. Select the heading or bookmark you want to link to from the Select a place in this document: list
  6. Click Ok

Insert an Email Hyperlink

An email hyperlink can be used to make it easy for a reader of the document to contact you.

  1. Select the text that you want to use for the hyperlink
  2. On the Standard toolbar, click the Insert Hyperlink button
  3. From the Link to: panel, select E-mail Address
  4. Email hyperlink

  5. In the E-mail Address box type the email address you want to link to
  6. Enter a default subject for the message in the Subject field. This is optional and can be used help track responses from the document
  7. Click Ok
