Use Animation in PowerPoint 2010

PowerPoint 2010 makes it easier to use animations in your presentations. The Ribbon is used to change animation settings such as effect options and timings. This is a big improvement on the Custom Animation Task Pane of previous versions.

Apply Animation to Slide Objects

  1. Select the object you want to animate
  2. Click the Animations tab on the Ribbon
  3. Click the More button in the Animations group
  4. Apply animation to an object on a slide

    The animations are split into four categories. Entrance, Emphasis, Exit and Motion Paths. As you hover over the animations a preview appears.

  5. Click on the effect you want to use

Add Further Animations

Multiple animations can be added to an object.

  1. Select the object you want to animate
  2. Click the Add Animation button in the Animations tab of the Ribbon
  3. Add further animation effects

  4. Select the animation you want to use

Change the Effect Options

  1. Select the object you want to change
  2. Click the Effect Options button on the Animations tab of the Ribbon
  3. Change an animation effects options

  4. Select the option you want to use

Change Animation Timings

Use the Timing group on the Animations tab to change settings such as when the animation effects starts, whether there is a delay and to reorder the effects.

  1. Select the object you want to change
  2. Make the required changes in the Timing group
  3. Change animation effect timings
