Inserting SmartArt

SmartArt is a new feature to PowerPoint 2007, replacing the Diagram tool from previous versions, allowing you to create quality diagrams and it just a few clicks.

Insert a SmartArt graphic

1. Click the SmartArt button in the Illustrations group of the Insert tab



Or

Click the Insert SmartArt Graphic button in the placeholder if using a Title and Content slide layout



The Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialogue box appears



2. Select the chart or diagram type of your choice from the list
3. Click Ok

The SmartArt graphic and Text Pane appears

Adding text to SmartArt

Text can be added to a SmartArt graphic using the Text Pane or the graphic itself.

1. Click the placeholder where you wish to insert the text
2. Type the text you want to insert

When entering text into an organization chart using the Text Pane, use the Tab and Shift + Tab keys to increase and decrease indentation. Indenting the text moves the box representing that text down a level. Decreasing the indent moves the box up a level.
