Opening an Existing Presentation

If you have a presentation that you have already been working on, you can open it from PowerPoint.

You can do so in three ways;

  • Click Office Button > Open
  • Click the Open button (if it has been added to the Quick Access Toolbar) Open button
  • Press Ctrl + O

The Open dialogue box will appear. Navigate to the location of the saved presentation using either the Look in list at the top or the shortcuts on the left, select the presentation and click Open.

If the presentation you are looking for was used recently, it can be opened by clicking the Office Button and selecting it from the list of recent documents.

If the opened presentation was saved as a 97-2003 presentation, [Compatibility Mode] will appear in the Title Bar.

Although using PowerPoint 2007, compatibility mode tells you that not all the new PowerPoint 2007 features are available for use, unless the presentation is saved under the new file format.
