Text Formatting

Change the font

When changing the font, it is encouraged to stick with the Sans Serif family of fonts. These are fonts without the little feet at the bottom of the letters such as Arial, Impact and Helvetica. Sans Serif fonts are easier to read from distance.

  1. Select the text you wish to format. If you want to format all the text within a placeholder, select the placeholder by clicking the placeholder border
  2. Click the arrow on the Font button in the Font group of the Home tab
  3. The font list is displayed. Recently used fonts appear at the top of the list.

  4. Select the font you want to apply
  5. Fonts with the letters TT next to them are True Type fonts. True Type fonts match the screen display with hat is printed. Fonts that are not True Type fonts may look different when printed.

Change font size

Text needs to be legible from the back of large rooms where the presentation will be given. It is encouraged not to use a font size lower than 22 points.

  1. Select the text you want to format
  2. Click the arrow on the Font Size button in the Font group of the Home tab
  3. The Font Size list is displayed

  4. Click the font size that you want to apply
  5. The font size can also be changed by clicking on the number within the Font Size box, entering your own number and pressing Enter.

Change the font colour

When changing font colour ensure to keep the contrast between the background colour and font colour high. For example, if you use a dark coloured background for your slides, choose a light colour for your text.

  1. Select the text that you want to format
  2. Click the arrow on the Font Color button in the Font group of the Home tab
  3. Change the font colour

  4. Select the colour you want, or click More Colors to see a larger range of shades of colours to choose from

Change the font style

  1. Select the text that you want to format
  2. Click the necessary formatting button in the Font group of the Home tab, or use the keyboard shortcut keys to apply the desired font style
  3. Press Click To apply
    Ctrl + B Bold button Bold
    Ctrl + I Italics button Italic
    Ctrl + U Underline button Underline
    Shadow button Shadow

Use the Font dialogue box

The Font dialogue box provides the one-stop shop to all the text formatting options you might need.

  1. Select the text you want to format
  2. Click the dialogue box launcher arrow in the corner of the Font group on the Home tab

  4. Make the required changes in the dialogue box
  5. Click Ok

Change case

You can convert the case of text to uppercase, lowercase or sentence case.

  1. Select the text that you wish to change
  2. Click the Change Case button in the Font group of the Home tab
  3. Change the font case

  4. Click the option you want to apply

You can also change case by pressing Shift + F3.
