Format a Chart
In PowerPoint 2007 charts can be formatted using pre-defined layouts and styles allowing you to format the chart at the click of a button. Each element of a chart can also be formatted manually for greater control.
Change chart layout
Chart layouts contain different combinations of titles, labels and sizes.
- select the chart
- Click the Design tab under Chart Tools on the Ribbon
- Select a layout from the Chart Layouts group. Click the More button to see the full list of chart layouts available
Change chart style
Chart Styles are a combination of different formatting commands.
- Select the chart
- Click the Design tab under Chart Tools on the Ribbon
- Select a style from the chart styles group. Click the More button to view all available styles
Format chart elements
Any chart element can be formatted individually such as the colour of a charts columns, scale of its axis or the font of the chart title.
- Select the chart element you want to format either by clicking on the element, or by selecting it from the Chart Elements drop list in the Current Selection group of the Layout tab
- Click the Format Selection button in the Current Selection group of the Layout tab
- Change the required options
- Click Ok
The appropriate format dialogue box will appear dependent upon the chart element you are formatting. The image below shows the dialogue box for formatting the Value Axis
