Working with Chart Labels

Chart labels allow people to read and interpret your chart and its data. Chart labels include the chart title, data series legend, axis titles and data labels.

Add chart titles

  1. Click Chart > Chart Options
  2. The Chart Options dialogue box is displayed. Click the Titles tab to select it if necessary
  3. Entering chart titles

  4. Type a chart title in the Chart Title: box
  5. Type a title to be used for the category axis in the Value (X) axis: box
  6. Type a title to be used for the value axis in the Value (Y) axis: box
  7. Click Ok

Move the Legend

The Legend is used to identify the data series on a chart. It contains small coloured boxes represented on the chart by each data series.

The Legend is added automatically to every new chart, but it can be removed or moved to a different chart location.
  1. Click Chart > Chart Options
  2. Click the Legend tab if necessary to display it
  3. Modifying the legend

  4. Select a new position for the Legend or uncheck the Show Legend box to remove it
  5. Click Ok

Add data labels

Data labels mark the value or percentage of a data point on the chart. They are commonly used in Pie Charts to identify the percentage used by each slide of the pie.

  1. Click Chart > Chart Options
  2. Click the Data Labels tab if necessary to display it
  3. Inserting data labels

  4. Click the checkbox for the labels you wish to show
  5. The labels available will depend on the chart type used

  6. Click Ok
