Workbook Protection

Workbook protection can be used to prevent users making changes to the structure of a workbook, and to its default window layout.

Protecting against changes made to a workbooks structure include the insertion and deletion of worksheets, viewing hidden worksheets and recording macros.

Protect a workbook

1. Click the Protect Workbook button in the Changes group of the Review tab

The Protect Workbook dialogue box is displayed



2. Check or uncheck the Structure and Windows boxes
3. Enter a password
4. Click Ok

The Confirm Password dialogue box appears

5. Re-enter the password and click Ok

With the workbook protected, unauthorised actions will appear ghosted.



Unprotect a workbook

1. Click the Unprotect Workbook button in the Changes group of the Review tab

The Unprotect Workbook dialogue box appears



2. Enter the password
3. Click Ok
