Format Painter

Format Painter is a hidden gem inside all Office applications. It allows you to copy the formatting of one cell to another cell or range of cells. This can ensure consistency of formatting and save a lot of time.

1. Select the cell with the formatting you wish to copy
2. Click the Home tab and then click the Format Painter button from the Clipboard group



3. Select the cell(s) you wish to copy the formatting to



4. The formatting is applied and the Format Painter is turned off.

To apply the formatting to more than one cell or range of cells:

1. Select the cell with the formatting you wish to copy
2. Double click the Format Painter button
3. Select the cell(s) you wish to copy the formatting to
4. The Format Painter remains on after applying the formatting, so you may continue to apply the formatting to other cells
5. Click the Format Painter button, or press Esc to turn it off
