Workbook Protection

Workbook protection can be used to prevent users making changes to the structure of a workbook, and to its default window layout.

Protecting against changes made to a workbooks structure include the insertion and deletion of worksheets, viewing hidden worksheets and recording macros.

Protect a workbook

  1. Click Tools > Protection > Protect Workbook
  2. The Protect Workbook dialogue box is displayed

  3. Check or uncheck the Structure and Windows boxes
  4. Enter a password
  5. Click Ok
  6. The Confirm Password dialogue box appears

  7. Re-enter the password and click Ok
  8. With the workbook protected, unauthorised actions will appear ghosted.

Unprotect a workbook

  1. Click Tools > Protection > Unprotect Workbook
  2. Enter the password
  3. Click Ok
