Cell Comments

Cell comments allow you to add notes to a worksheet for yourself and other users. They appear when you point to a cell containing a comment, and are recognised by a triangle in the corner of the cell.

Inserting a comment

  1. Select the cell
  2. Click Comment from the Insert menu
  3. Inserting a comment

  4. Enter the comment
  5. Entering a comment

  6. Click outside the comment area. A triangle appears in the corner of the cell indicating the existence of a comment. The comment can be viewed by pointing to the cell

Displaying the Reviewing toolbar

When working with comments you will find it easier using the Reviewing toolbar. Click View > Toolbars > Reviewing to display the toolbar.

To permanently display a comment:

  1. Select the cell containing the comment
  2. Click the Show/Hide Comment button on the Reviewing toolbar
  3. To display all comments click Show All Comments on the Reviewing Toolbar, or click View > Comments

The Next Comment and Previous Comment buttons on the Reviewing toolbar can be used to navigate comments within the workbook.

Editing a comment

  1. Select the cell containing the comment
  2. Click the Edit Comment button on the Reviewing toolbar (when a cell already containing a comment is selected, the New Comment button changes to the Edit Comment button)
  3. Edit the comment
  4. Click outside the comment area

Comment boxes can be resized using one of the eight sizing handles around the border of the comment.

Delete a comment

  1. Select the cell containing the comment to be deleted
  2. Click the Delete Comment button on the Reviewing toolbar
