Validate a worksheet

Tools such as Autofill are not recognised by Data Validation, meaning invalid data can be entered onto a worksheet. Invalid entries on a worksheet can be highlighted using the Circle Invalid Data tool.

Highlight invalid data

Validating data is best performed using the Formula Auditing toolbar.

  1. If the Formula Auditing toolbar is not visible, Click View > Toolbars and select Formula Auditing
  2. Validating data buttons

  3. Click the Circle Invalid Data button
  4. A red circle appears around all invalid data on the worksheet.

Remove invalid data highlights

To remove the circles from cells containing invalid data:

  • Correct the data in the cell and the circle will disappear
  • Or

  • Click the Clear Validation Circles button on the Formula Auditing toolbar
  • Clearing the circles will remove the circles but the data remains unchanged and therefore invalid.
